X-Files: Season Seven: Millenium

It was not my intention to review a new zombie scenario last night, but as I discovered, the FBI's dynamic duo had a brief encounter with the undead in season seven of the X-Files. Now, as will soon become clear, this is not a typical zombie outbreak scenario, at least in the context of this journal. However, I like to make a reasonable effort to stay true to my belief that there are many incomprehensible mysteries governing this existence of ours, and despite my skepticism, this scenario deserves at least a few brief notes.

Mulder and Scully's undead were not of the variety fueled by viral epidemic, nor spread by bite or bodily fluids. These particular undead came into existence after their former living selves committed suicide, then were raised by a necromancer in a coordinated effort to bring about a biblical end-of-times scenario.

The ritualistic and religious nature of this situation gives me the inclination to liken it to a voodoo zombie scenario, however, these men were not unwillingly victims in this transformation, but instead, actively believed in what they were doing. They killed themselves, were buried, then raised in a ritual involving a circle of animal blood, clothing borrowed from the deceased, and religious chanting.

One similarity to common zombie theory was that these undead could not be brought down by gunshots to the chest, but instead required head shots to be killed. However, these zombies were also quite quick on their feet, and seemed to exhibit the intelligence to plan and execute an ambush.

I'm not sure what to make of this account, and couldn't even hazard a guess as to its likelihood of occurring. For what it is worth, I guess I should also mention that apparently an unbroken circle of salt on the ground, around one's feet, is an effective ward against this variety of zombie. Of course you're stuck in that circle as long as the zombies are standing there watching you.

So, carry a big bag of salt around with you, or a trusty 1911.
